Four grumpy old wizards. One screen. A battlefield full of fireballs. And somebody's nicked the good biscuits.

Forget saving the world. These old men have grudges to settle.

Angry Old Men is a turn-based wizard battle for up to four players on one phone, tablet or PC. Take turns, sling ridiculous spells, summon magical minions and whack your rivals with a walking stick.

Playing alone? The computer fills any empty seats, so there's always someone to fight.

Make tea. Make trouble. Be the last old wizard standing.

HOW TO PLAY

Every turn, your wizard does ONE thing:

• MOVE — Shuffle across the battlefield and get yourself into trouble.
• CAST — Unleash rainbow magic missiles, lightning bolts, fireballs and teleportation spells.
• WHACK — Give a rival a good seeing-to with your walking stick.

Feeling overwhelmed? Have a nice cup of tea. Even an angry old wizard needs a sit-down now and then.

SUMMON YOUR OWN LITTLE NIGHTMARE

Why fight fair when you can summon magical creatures to do the dirty work?

• Imps — Nasty little creatures, unless someone brings fire.
• Dwarves — Tough fighters with one rather unfortunate weakness: lightning and their metal helmets do not mix.
• Wraiths — Terrifying supernatural horrors. Happily, a walking stick can pass straight through them. Well, that's embarrassing.

Learn their weaknesses, exploit your opponents' mistakes, and turn the battlefield into a magical mess.

WATCH THE WORLD BURN

Fireballs don't just hurt wizards. They set trees alight.

The flames spread from tree to tree, destroying cover and changing the battlefield as the fire takes hold. A safe hiding place can become an inferno in a single turn.

Keep moving. Watch your footing. And perhaps don't stand next to the enormous burning tree.

MAGIC IS POWER. POTIONS ARE BETTER.

Knock out enemy creatures to recover mana and keep your spells coming. Grab potions when they appear, conserve your strength, and make every turn count.

A well-timed spell can win a fight. A badly timed one can leave you standing in the open, out of mana, holding a stick.

Not ideal.

FOUR WIZARDS ENTER. EVENTUALLY, IT'S BEDTIME.

Every match takes place on a randomly generated map, mirrored to give every corner a fair start.

And these aren't young wizards. They have their limits.

After a while, it's past their bedtime, and the battle is forced towards its conclusion. Most games finish in around 15–25 rounds.

Short enough for a quick duel. Chaotic enough to demand a rematch.

GLORIOUSLY SILLY RETRO MAGIC

Neon vector graphics. A fantasy soundtrack. Four grumpy old men shouting their spells through gloriously silly calculator-like voices.

Want to enjoy the visuals in peace? Music, voices and sound effects can each be switched off independently.

Inspired by Lords of Chaos by Julian Gollop (Target Games, 1990), Angry Old Men brings classic turn-based wizard battles back with a silly sense of humour.
